Best remembered for

Contribution in improvising the coal washing technology, conversion of coal to gas and liquid fuel. His contribution has led to more than 50% increase in effective use of coal.

Instrumental in the establishment of Central Mining Research Station; Director of Central Fuel Research Institute.


In 1974, he played a vital role in formulating the National fuel policy of India.
He has contributed to the publishing of 591 scientific papers and reports.

Contribution to IPR

More than 90 patents are to his credit. His innovations are majorly related to coal science and technology, low temperature carbonisation of coal, and process for recovery of useful coal by-products.
